Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-07-12. This is a starting draft — have it reviewed before public launch, especially for student/minor privacy (FERPA context) and your state's requirements.

What we do NOT collect

No Social Security numbers, FSA IDs, or FAFSA data.
No tax returns, financial-aid documents, or bank/payment information.
No immigration or citizenship information.
No health information.
No accounts are required to read or use the site.

What little we do handle

Your device only: if you post a community tip in preview mode, it's saved in your own browser (localStorage) until you choose to send it in. We don't receive it otherwise.
Messages you send us: if you email us or submit a tip/correction, we receive what you send (e.g., a nickname and the tip). We use it only to run and improve the directory, and to review submissions before posting.
No ad trackers or data sales. We do not sell or rent any information, and we never sell student data.
Basic, privacy-respecting analytics (page counts) may be used to understand what's helpful — never tied to your identity.

Community posts

Post under a nickname. Never include personal financial info, SSNs, addresses, account logins, or immigration details. We review submissions before publishing and remove anything unsafe or identifying. You may ask us to remove your published post any time.

Links to official sites

We link to official government, college, and nonprofit sites (like studentaid.gov and college pages). Those sites have their own privacy policies — read them before entering any information there.

Children & students

This site is designed for teens and adults and deliberately collects no sensitive data. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a submission contains a minor's identifying details, tell us and we'll remove it.
