The problem we're fixing
- Small events never reach the big platforms β library programs, cruise nights, church fundraisers, model train meets.
- βNear meβ isn't near β big sites show events 90 minutes away or across state lines.
- Filters don't filter β no real radius, date-range, multi-category, or in-person-only controls.
- Listings skip what matters β parking, accessibility, rain plans, whether kids or dogs are welcome.
- Discovery lives on social media β people miss things because they don't follow the right five accounts.
Where listings come from
- Official public calendars β municipal, county, parks & recreation, library, museum, tourism bureau, chamber, fairground, university, and venue calendars.
- RSS and iCalendar feeds that organizations publish for reuse.
- Organizer submissions β free, human-reviewed before publishing.
- Permitted event APIs (roadmap): Ticketmaster Discovery, SeatGeek, Bandsintown, PredictHQ.
What we never do: scrape private accounts, login-protected pages, social profiles, or sites that prohibit reuse. Every real listing carries its source link and a last-verified date β the organizer's site is always the authority.
The weekly refresh
The guide is designed around a weekly update cycle: re-check every feed and calendar, expire past events, flag date changes, and re-verify the "last verified" stamp on featured listings. Anything ambiguous goes to a human review queue instead of publishing automatically.
APIs that need sign-up or approval before launch
- Ticketmaster Discovery API β free tier with rate limits; register for a key.
- SeatGeek API β free key; commercial use requires their partner terms.
- Bandsintown API β artist events; requires an approved app ID.
- PredictHQ β paid subscription; strongest for enriched/aggregated coverage.
- Mapbox or Google Maps β optional upgrade from the current OpenStreetMap tiles; needs a billing-backed key.
Privacy
No accounts are required to browse. Saved events live in your own browser. Location is never requested without asking, and search works fine without GPS β type any town or ZIP. We don't sell data or run ad trackers. (Template β attorney review before public launch.)
Listing terms
Submissions must be real events you have the right to publish. We may edit for clarity, decline listings, or remove anything reported as inaccurate. Featured placement is always labeled. (Template β attorney review before public launch.)
